Spelling bees, anyone?
The Quechua Bibles that are waiting to be printed use a slightly different spelling system than the previously published New Testaments. So, our Quechua co-workers have made it a point to get out and help prepare people by organizing reading and writing practice. A number of churches in the Huánuco area have hosted series of classes. Men and women, young and old, on white boards, blackboards and pieces of paper practice away. Everywhere the big question is: When will our Bibles arrive?
What an example!
In another part of the mountains, Quechua co-workers challenged a group of pastors to pray for God to provide the funds needed to publish their Quechua Bible. The next day pastor Mauricio and his wife gave a donation of $300. To put this in context, this is roughly equivalent to a month’s pay for someone who earns a regular salary, which pastor Mauricio does not. Instead, he and his wife had frugally saved up from their sales of extra farm produce. We aren’t the only ones re-telling Mauricio’s story. You may have already heard it. It gives a clue to how much it means to our Quechua friends that they have a complete copy of God's Word!
Many hands
We praise God for all the funds already given towards publishing these Bibles. Since mentioning the need, in just two months we have about half the funds to print all the Bibles. That’s amazing! Thank you to each who has already given. Thank you to each who is telling others about this opportunity. Thank you to each who is praying for these funds to come in. God is at work through each of you! Let’s keep praying for the remaining $80,500 needed to finish the job.
Praises and prayer requests
*Praise: Three of the six Bibles have made it through the post-layout editorial check. Two of them will be sent off to the printers soon. If the funds come in for the third Bible, they will all go together. Continue to pray for Becky. She is currently working on the post-layout editorial check for the fourth Bible.
*Continue to pray for God to be glorified as he brings together the funds needed to print these Bibles.
*Praise for the book projects Mark’s been able to help JAWCA (one of our partner organizations) finish as well as the Bible studies and teaching materials that they’ve asked for help with.
*Praise that a doctor recently came up with a diagnosis which explains the mystery of Mark’s nearly ten months of deep from-the-toes coughing. He’s had a number of tests and just yesterday started treatment for organizing pneumonia. Pray he begins to feel better soon!
