Dear Friends of Mike and Joan,
Please let me introduce myself. My name is Dan Whitehead and I currently live in Ecuador and where I work with MAF as the regional director of Latin America. AS the regional director, it is my privilege to work with the MAF personnel that serve in this part of the world that I have come to love.
It's a joy for me to write this letter of commendation for Mike and Joan as they prepare to spend some time in the U.S. For the next six months the Rosses will be on their normal furlough, giving them an opportunity to rest, recharge, renew, and reconnect with many of you.
Mike and Joan have been serving faithfully in Latin America for many years now. They are veterans, with a depth of experience that few missionaries can match. As you know, for the past several years they have been on-loan to our national affiliate in Mexico, Alas de Socorro. Alas de Socorro provides a valuable transportation service to the isolated communities in the mountains around Oaxaca, Mexico. This area is home to many different people groups and cultures, and it is a region that has been resistant to hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Because of the service that Alas de Socorro provides, these mountian villages allow the airplanes and the Alas de Socorro staff access to the area, giving them an opportunity to be light and salt. I hope you have a chance to connect with the Rosses during this furlough time so that you might hear firsthand about the work they are involved with in Mexico.
