Letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. Rom. 8:6b

This verse speaks truth I experienced this month. Below are some recent opportunities we and the translation team have had to put this verse into practice.

Lots of changes

In the days leading up to the regional women’s conference many things changed: the number of times I was to speak, the days I was to speak, how long I was to speak, and the place I was to speak (from inside to outside for the evening meeting.) All the uncertainty and change wasn’t easy for me. Mark is always so encouraging. He helped me get my heart and thoughts on track. The weekend went well even when things didn’t go as planned. I was able to relax and enjoy the time. People were paying attention. The women were able to repeat the main points from the first night when I taught the next day. Thank you for praying for them and me.

Lots of challenges

This is the beginning of week three of this workshop. It’s the last week. Once again the guys are facing challenges.

• Yepo came down with shakes, shivers and fever. Thankfully, he’s better now.

• Sumer received an urgent call from his sister in Lima requesting his help. He made a quick trip traveling down one night and back up the next night.

• Shatu’s wife was in town and learned that she needs surgery. She’s very anxious.

• Felipe missed work overseeing the kitchen at the women’s conference. Utensils went missing under his watch.

Please keep praying for the whole team & their families. Pray for hearts & minds at peace, able to concentrate on translation.

Lots of visitors

The first week of this workshop a team of Moody radio broadcasters came to visit. If you listen to a Moody radio station you may hear a number of interviews highlighting the benefits of having Scripture in one’s mother tongue. Listen! You may hear us, too!

Lots of work

In addition to full, full days of challenging work, week one also brought a cry of HELP from a neighboring Quechua group. Their hymnbook is sold out. With a very big celebration coming up early August they need a new hymnbook ready for people who travel far to attend. Mark’s been working with them to add new songs, change the spelling system, and rectify previous inconsistencies. In spite of these unexpected extras Mark remains remarkably calm and at peace. He trusts that God is in control of his time and days. After all, these “distractions” are good investments. Moody Radio is raising money for Wycliffe to start translation projects in new places around the world. The hymn-books help people praise God in worship.

Praises and Prayer Requests

*Praise! After many weeks, Shatu’s vehicle was returned to him and he was told he did not owe any of the storage/parking fees he had been originally expected to pay.

*Pray: we’d be an encouragement to the believers from the approximately 30 churches in the Margos district as we join them August 1 – 2 at their annual gathering.

*Pray: for the neighboring Quechua group to get their new hymnbooks printed before August 8th. Pray for Mark who will be speaking at their big annual event that day.

*Pray: August 9 – 15th we meet with church leaders from two of the five areas we translate for to get their input into the translation. Pray that God will send key people who will read with us and then promote these Bibles in their areas.

Still pressing forward - Psalms & Proverbs are now dark green; Ezekiel & Daniel light green,
