  • Diaper Donations Needed!

Looking for caring individuals to help support the Portage-Summit diaper bank!

Why diapers? Diapers are a basic need for infants and children and federal programs such as SNAP and WIC do not cover diapers. An inadequate supply of diapers has severe repercussions for the health and emotional well-being of the child and parent. Unfortunately, UnitedHealthcare declined to continue their sponsorship this year, leaving the organization in a very serious financial bind and unable to purchase diapers to make up for any donation shortfall.

  • Hospice of the Western Reserve- Furniture Donations Needed!

Consider donating your gently used furniture/household items to Hospice of the Western Reserve Warehouse Sales. What better way to repurpose gently used furniture and housewares than to donate to a beneficial cause? Proceeds from these sales support seriously ill patients and their loved ones, in addition to programs such as art and music therapy, school crisis and community bereavement services.

Sales are held several times throughout the year at Hospice of the Western Reserve Headquarters, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110. The next Warehouse Sale is Friday, May 12th, 8 am-4 pm and Saturday, May 13th, 9 am-3 pm.

    Items Needed Include:

  • The Way Out Prison Ministry Volunteers Needed in Summit & Portage Counties

Summit County: Have you served as a chaplain in some compacity? Are you a retired military or hospital chaplain? The Way Out Prison Ministry is in need of a qualified person in Summit County to oversee and grow religious services in 7 Oriana House facilities for men and women. These are low-level security correctional facilities. They consist of half-way houses, state and federal re-entry facilities and community based correctional facilities.

Portage County: The Way Out Prison Ministry is offering an exciting ministry opportunity to volunteers with a heart for the youth who are incarcerated in the Portage/Geauga Detention Center in Ravenna. We are looking for a dynamic youth-oriented team from churches in Portage/Geauga County to serve on our ministry team. We bring contemporary Christian music,a relevant Bible lesson, and a small group discussion for one hour every Thursday evening from 7-8 pm. Each team meets one Thursday each month.

Go to www.TheWayOutMinistry.org for more information.

  • Drivers Needed for Cancer Patients

The American Cancer Society is in need of volunteers to help get local patients to their cancer treatments. This year alone an estimated 66,000 Ohio residents will learn that they have cancer and many of them will not feel well enough to drive and may not have friends or family available to help get them to their treatment. The ACS program, called Road to Recovery, helps those with cancer overcome this critical barrier to treatment. In 2015, the Road to Recovery program was able to provide 255 rides for Cuyahoga County residents to get to their important appointments. In 2016, it provided 400 rides to Cuyahoga County residents. We are getting more requests every day and are hoping to spread the word about Road to Recovery to find a few more people who would be willing to help.
