Kitchen Manager The Garden Christian Academy + The Bridge Avenue School JOB SUMMARY The Kitchen Manager for our Nutrition Program ensures the food meets quality standards and is sent out on time. Much of the Kitchen Manager’s time is spent preparing the main dish, delegating tasks to our volunteers and serving our students. The Kitchen Manager observes food quality and also makes sure that all safety and sanitation requirements are being followed in the kitchen. JOB DUTIES While Kitchen Managers are responsible for a variety of managerial tasks, common duties include: ● Managing inventory so that all necessary ingredients are stocked for service ● Streamlining the kitchen processes to maintain prompt service times ● Working with the Nutrition Director to develop and maintain the school lunch menu ● Setting regular cleaning standards for the kitchen and verifying that volunteers are maintaining sanitation levels ● Creating a welcoming environment for both volunteers and the students we serve. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS An excellent Kitchen Manager will possess a diverse set of skills. Skills which are important as a Kitchen Manager include: ● A strong base of culinary knowledge ● Leadership skills ● Interpersonal skills ● Conflict resolution ● Attention to detail ● Physical stamina to withstand a full shift, up to 6 hours on their feet ● Flexibility and problem solving skills ● Time management EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS Although a degree or certification is not required at this time, upon hiring, the kitchen manager will need to complete a safety and sanitation course as well as on site training with the Nutrition Director. Additionally we require our kitchen staff to adhere to the GCA Statement of Faith. - Additional expectations may include: 1) Managing Kids Café orders a) Receiving and putting away KC lunches b) Logging temperature of milk daily c) Neatly putting away the delivery slips 2) Filing receipts 3) Daily temperature checks 4) Daily food log notes 5) Manage volunteers sign up + Sick Policy Forms
