Evangelism Night at SI

Location: The Warehouse (31200 Solon Road, Solon OH 44139)
Start Time: Thu 13, Dec. 2018, 10 p.m.
End Time: Fri 14, Dec. 2018, midnight

Dear Parents of High School Students,

We have spent the past two months at Student Impact doing a series on “Sharing Jesus.” We have been teaching about evangelism, talking about how we can speak with unbelieving people about our faith, and discussing and practicing how these conversations might actually take place. As this series comes to a close, I wanted to give students an opportunity to practice what we have been learning this semester, which is why this Thursday evening we are having an “evangelism night” in place of Student Impact. I’m sending out this email to give you a heads-up on what we will be doing and give you an opportunity to ask me any questions you might have about this experience.

Students will arrive at the Warehouse at 7pm like usual, but at 7:30 small groups will depart from the Warehouse to separate locations. Upperclassmen will be going to Beachwood Mall, Sophomores will be going to Legacy Village, and Freshman will be going to Pinecrest. Each group will travel in their leader’s vehicles to their location and will be within the visible supervision of their adult leaders at all times. When the students arrive at their locations, they will walk around in groups of 2-3 and attempt to engage people in spiritual conversations, looking for opportunities to share their faith and the good news of the gospel. We’re also giving them copies of the Gospel of John and “The Story” tracts that you’ve seen located around the church. The students and adult leaders will do this for 45-60 minutes, and then head back to the Warehouse before 9pm, discussing their experience during the car ride back.

I would ask that you encourage your high school student to participate in this event. I fully acknowledge (and have acknowledged all throughout the course of our series) that evangelism is hard. It’s uncomfortable, it’s awkward, and for some of us it is one of our worst fears. However, I have also expressed to our students that evangelism is not an option for some Christians, but an obligation for all Christians. Jesus has called all disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them who he is and what he has done (Matt. 28:18,19) and the primary way that God saves people is through using our words and our witness for Jesus Christ (Rom. 10:13-17). I hope that you share this conviction with me and that you will encourage and exhort your high school student to participate in this event, praying that God would use these conversations to save unbelievers, but also that He would use this event to create a desire for evangelism in the hearts of our students.

Thank you for your support and your prayers. Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns about Thursday.

For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed?
And how are they to believe in him in whom they have never heard?
And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
And how are they to preach unless they are sent?
As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Romans 10:13-15
