We focus on volunteerism, developing friendships, and creating community opportunities while serving a broad range of ability levels. Our Support Specialist DSPs engage directly with our uniquely-abled members, providing assistance in numerous ways to ensure their safety and success. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy being active, hands-on, highly relational, and adaptable! || Part-time and Full-time Openings Hours: M-F 8:30am-2:30pm Offering competitive pay $18.00-19.00/hr Other Benefits: PTO, Paid Holidays, Paid Training || || Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to || - Be a positive, attentive, understanding and caring presence. - Ensure the rights and dignity of individuals are respected at all times. - Provide direct care and assistance with daily living activities while promoting skill acquisition and independence (including personal hygiene, mealtime/feeding, diet/food preparation, ambulation, positioning, social skills, positive behavioral strategies, and community safety). - Facilitate our members’ meaningful participation in various activities of their choosin (including: fitness, recreation, art, cooking, music, education and service projects). - Support individuals in exploring and engaging with their own community through a variety of venues, events and outings. - Drive vehicle to transport individuals to and/or from the Day Club (pick-ups and drop-offs) and to off-site activities during the program while adhering to all safety requirements related to the use and maintenance of vehicles. - Follow organizational procedures for MUI/UI incident reporting and service documentation. - Provide timely feedback about an individual’s changes, progress, health and needs. - Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors and families on a daily basis. - Be flexible, proactive and a team-player - Adhere to Tru Community’s employee code of conduct and embody our core values. - Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of the agency. || Education and Work Experience || --High school diploma or equivalent -Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a driving record that will enable the employee to be insured, if applicable. -Previous experience in providing direct care or services to persons with developmental disabilities is preferred, but not necessary || Skills and Abilities || - Ability to pass BCI/FBI background check, database checks, and drug screening - Ability to complete CPR/First Aid/AED training - Ability to complete DSP training - Satisfactory professional reference checks - Reliable attendance record; follow procedures for rescheduling or calling off - Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with i individuals and families - Ability to lift 50 pounds and traverse in a variety of environments [Tru Community complies with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment.
