Embracing Family 2015 Adoption Luncheon

On Nov. 8, Jackie Smigel will present a program called "Adoption 101: The Basics."  Many people have given thought to building or adding to their families through adoption however, the adoption journey can be both exciting and terribly overwhelming!  Where should you begin?

Jackie will present information about the adoption within the United States including how infants come to be placed for adoption, and about the brave women who make this choice fortheir babies and explorehow it all "comes together."  We will also learn about the 104,000 children in the United States who spend every night without a family to call their own as well as the State requirements to adopt, how to choose which type of adoption is right for your family and how to select an agency to work with.

Jackie has worked in the field of adoption for 26 years.  The founder and director of Open Arms Adoptions, she has a passion for working with children from the foster care system and is also a fierce advocate for the women who make the choice to give their unborn children life. Jackie has helped numberous children find their "forever families," has assisted young women in crisis over an unplanned pregnancy and has provided therapy for adoptive families struggling with attachment issues.  Additionally, Jackie has provided training to foster parents, adoptive parents, judges, attorneys and social workers.
