Enslaved and Rescued

Evening Service
Feb 10, 2019

Against the darkness of difficult and seemingly hopeless circumstances, the brightness of God’s providence shines throughout Scripture as a promise to His children. The book of Judges presents a bleak spiritual diagnosis for the people of Israel who had once again exchanged serving God for the worship of idols, and in abandoning God found themselves enslaved to sin and in need of rescue. Moved by pity and mercy, God provided a series of judges to serve as instruments of safety and protection for His people. Insufficient to rescue anyone from the stubbornness of their own rebellious hearts, however, the judges’ limited ability points us toward our ultimate and all-sufficient Savior, Jesus Christ.
