  • Ministry Profile: Faithful Friends, Jr.

John Lane beams as he displays a photo on his iPhone of an impeccable drawing of the Walt Disney World logo that his 11-year-old son, Ethan, drew from memory on a white board, a medium that most of us can't even write legibly on. "He is extremely talented," notes Jim Croyts, who, along with his wife Char, founded the Faithful Friends, Jr. ministry in 2007. "He loves Disney. Initially, he would take Play-Doh and roll it into the tiniest little things and form it into the logo letters with amazing detail, and a lot of times he's just doing it from memory!"

  • Ministry Details: Men's and Women's Summer Bible Studies

Everywhere women face choices – home or career; money or relationships; “secure” marriage or “free” singleness; looks or intellect; women bishops or tea ladies and babysitters?

What makes a real man? There is no shortage of role models on offer: the dedicated Dad or the hard-drinking lad; the thrusting businessman or the sensitive husband; the competitive sportsman or the contemplative bookworm; the wild adventurer or the stay-at-home gardener.

  • Book Recommendation: Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy

Bonhoeffer is the subject of an extensive new biography by Eric Metaxas who is probably best-known for his biography of William Wilberforce...which was the official biography that accompanied the 2006 film by the same name. Interestingly, this is one of two lengthy biographies of Bonhoeffer to be published this year (the other, Dietrich Bonhoeffer 1906-1945: Martyr, Thinker, Man of Resistance by Ferdinand Schlingensiepen is due to hit store shelves in a couple of weeks). Metaxas sets the bar high with his Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy. While it may not be one of the top three or four biographies you will ever read, it is nevertheless a very solid effort and with much to commend it. It’s entirely possible that if I went ahead and ranked my ten favorite biographies this would be somewhere on that list.

  • Book Recommendation: Rescuing Ambition

Many think of ambition as nothing more than the drive for personal honor or fame. As a result, ambition—the God-implanted drive to improve, produce, develop, and create—is neglected and well on its way to paralysis.

  • Thank You, Parksiders!

Building Into the Next Generation is about building relationships and Parkside Church has built a great relationship with Scranton Road Bible Church (SRBC) in Cleveland, Ohio. For more than 20 years, Parkside families have given their prayers, time, and money to help provide Christmas presents for the kids and families at SRBC. This past year, Parkside families gave generously to help provide Christmas presents for 190 men, women, and children at Scranton Road Bible Church.

  • Let's Go Camping!

With summer right around the corner and gas prices reaching record highs, thoughts of planning a summer vacation may seem daunting while the idea of staying at home without a break is just no fun. Why not go camping? Parkside families are invited to come together for a fun and affordable weekend, August 3-5, at Atwood Lake Park in Mineral City, Ohio, just south of Canton.

  • Welcome John Shearer

For the past two months, Parkside's congregation has been edified by the teachings of our church's pastoral staff. For the third and final month of senior pastor Alistair Begg's sabbatical, we are excited and honored to introduce visiting pastor, John Shearer, who will preach at both the Sunday morning and evening services. Some of you may remember Pastor Shearer when he was a guest speaker at Parkside's Basics Conference for Pastors in 2010.
