Dear Parents of Incoming Freshmen,

I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying spring! As the summer approaches, it is my privilege to invite your graduating 8th grader to the High School Ministry of Parkside Church. Speaking on behalf of all of our adult leaders, we are excited to welcome the class of 2018! Given that moving from middle school to high school can often be a daunting prospect for students, I wanted to write and let you know of a few opportunities to make that transition easier.

Beginning Thursday, June 12th, your child is welcome to begin attending Student Impact, which is the high school equivalent of Club JV. Student Impact meets regularly on Thursday evenings from 7-9pm at the Warehouse (31200 Solon Road, Solon, OH). June 12th will be a special night of welcome for the new freshmen, we will have pizza and games, and will do everything we can to try and make them feel at home. Furthermore, at 8:45pm, I’ll be hosting a brief parent’s meeting next door at the Loft to discuss some aspects of the high school ministry, introduce myself, and give you a chance to ask any questions you might have. We’d be delighted if you would consider coming a few minutes early to pick up your student in order to attend!

Another event that is specifically designed to help 8th graders move into high school is the Freshmen are Rafting Trip, which will take place June 23-25. This retreat is only open to the incoming freshman class, giving your child a unique opportunity to develop relationships with both the adult and student leaders of the ministry. I’ve enclosed a flyer for this event, and as with all of our retreats, full and partial scholarships are available.

In September, students can become further involved by signing up for one of our Student Life Groups, which are small group Bible studies that meet in local homes and are led by our adult ministry team members. If you’d like to find out more about any of these programs, please feel free to visit www.parksidechurch.com/hs. Also make sure you sign up to receive text and e-mail updates, a postcard is included with instructions.

Just as it was in the Middle School Ministry, the goal of the High School Ministry at Parkside is to come alongside parents in seeing unbelieving students become committed followers of Jesus Christ.  We are prayerfully looking forward to their arrival and genuinely looking forward to partnering with you over the next four years.  Most importantly, please pray with us that God will work through his Spirit to make Himself known to this new class of freshmen!

Jon Cameron
