The Parkside Insider: September 1, 2023

“The beauty of scientific
laws shows the beauty of God himself.”

-Vern Poythress

Is mankind an error-prone accident of nature or a masterpiece of engineering, ingenuity, and intention? For those of us who believe in the marvelous design of mankind, how might we respond well to those who think we are nothing more than an accident?

This year's Westminster Conference on Science and Faith explores the uniqueness of human beings in relation to God, to human society, and to physiology, biology, paleontology, and genetics. The content is designed to be accessible to a broad audience, believers and skeptics alike.

Join us at Parkside for this simulcast event!
Friday, September 29, 2023  |  6pm - 9pm

We will be viewing night one of this two-day conference. If you know someone who is curious or critical about faith in God, this is a great opportunity to invite them to hear from leading scientists and theologians how science supports belief in God.

Friday evening’s sessions include talks by Westminster professor and theologian Vern Poythress; biochemist, author, and Discovery Institute Senior Fellow, Michael Denton; and Discovery Institute Vice President and Senior Fellow, John G. West. All Friday attendees will receive a code to watch Saturday’s sessions live (also available for viewing later) from the comfort of their homes.

There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

Last Week's Sermon
Philippians 3:17-4:1

The Christian life is not meant to be lived alone. Because we share a Savior, believers contribute to the building up of one another's faith. In his letter to the Philippians, Paul issues a call to imitation—not for the sake of flattery, but as a method of discipleship—while warning believers to be mindful of our influences. Our brothers and sisters in Christ are gifts from God, walking with us and reminding us that we belong to the Lord, are citizens of heaven, and one day will be transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ.

At the end of this month, we will say farewell to one of our Pastoral Team members, Andrew Johnson, as he and his family move Indian Head, Maryland, where he has accepted a position as a pastoral assistant at Potomac Heights Baptist Church. In 2001, Andrew began as a pastoral resident at Parkside and joined the pastoral team upon completion of the residency. We are thankful to the Lord for Andrew's time here, and pray for him, Ruth, and their children as they begin this new chapter.
