Three Pictures of Patience
When the Bible mentions patience, it doesn't refer to a virtue that we can create by self-effort or to empty platitudes. James, for example, provided three illustrations of patient waiting that direct us outside of ourselves to who God is and what He has done. This type of patience--informed by the character of God and confident in the promises of God--steadies believers no matter what our circumstances may be.
