Portraits of a Shepherd
What is a good shepherd? Ezekiel 34 describes a shepherd who exploits, neglects, and takes from his sheep. 1 Peter 5 describes a better shepherd—one who shepherds willingly, eagerly, and selflessly for the sake of God’s Kingdom. No matter what kind of shepherding we receive from earthly leaders, Jesus explains in John 10 that our ultimate hope and confidence can only be found in him—the Good Shepherd, who lays down his life for his sheep. Whatever the future may bring, Jesus, the Good Shepherd will care for us because he knows, loves, and delights in his sheep.
