  • Building Into the Next Generation Another Important Day: 60 Days of Pledging

Last Sunday, we looked to the Scriptures to help guide our thinking about biblicial giving. In his sermon, It All Belongs to Him, Pastor Begg pointed to 1 Chronicles 29: 1-20 where he noted the importance of understanding that all that we do should be for the glory of God. "The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the LORD God," said King David. He then asked "who is willing to consecrate themselves to the LORD today?" Pastor Begg noted that this invitation by King David is an "invitation to participate in the work of, and in the worship of, God." As we look to the next 60 days for the vision of our church family, Pastor Begg offered this chapter as a useful and appropriate text to help us consider the responsibilities and opportunities that lie before us. • Book Recommendation: Just Do Something

To be honest, I don’t know that we really need another book—yet another book—on guidance and the will of God. Having said that, there is probably no genre of book I recommend more often than this simply because experience shows that many Christians, too many Christians, do not understand how God expects us to know his will and how we may expect him to guide us to those things that please him.

Stuff for Men: How to Tie a Fly, and the "Kill It and Grill It" Buffet

    Location: Parkside Church
    Start Time: Sat 19, March 2011, 8 p.m.
    End Time: Sat 19, March 2011, 10:30 p.m.

"You know, the Wild Game Dinner gets bad press," laughs Tom Polasky, an avid fisherman, deer hunter, and Parkside attendee. "People call it the 'Kill It and Grill It Buffet' and joke that if you hit anything on your way to church, bring it and we'll eat it, but these guys are more like gourmet cooks. They have their own cookware specifically for the dishes they make, and one guy makes wild salmon with rice and capers and a special cream sauce," beams Tom. This year, Tom will bring venison stuffed peppers that his wife, Heather, prepares with the bounty from one of Tom's hunts. "The first time we did this event, I wasn't sure what to expect, but this whole buffet is really great food."

    Start Time: Sat 19, March 2011, 12:15 p.m.
    End Time: Sat 19, March 2011, 5 p.m.

With thousands of people attending Parkside Church on Sunday for worship services, it's easy to feel lost in the crowd. Saying hello to friends and acquaintances in the hallways between services is always a happy event, but many of us are looking for other ways to meet new people and develop deeper relationships. Additionally, in sharing their vision for our church's future, Parkside's leadership team reminds us that the ability to "share the Gospel in the everyday events of life" and "the necessity of smaller gatherings for fellowship and outreach" are integral elements for our church family's spiritual growth and development.
