    * Pray for relationships among organizations working with the Mam Bible in Guatemala. There are other organizations, both spiritual and secular, promoting reading and skill building. Pray that literacy catches fire among the Mam for God’s glory.

  • Wes & Nancy June 2022 Prayer Requests

    * Pray for Wes and Nancy Collins, now retired. Retirement can be quite a mixed blessing, with changes at home, and friends left “on the field." Pray that the Collins find ministry opportunities and much joy in the midst of change.

    * Pray for Wes as he continues to work on writing a book about the history of writing among the Mam of Guatemala. The book is meant to encourage those who now read and write in Mam and have the Scriptures available to them for reading and study in their native language.

Many Maya Mam pastors and teachers are learning to use online resources for research and outreach. Many take classes vía ZOOM and visit homes and friends. Please pray to God for them as they learn new skills.

  • Wes & Nancy March 2022 Prayer Request

Pray for workers and teachers traveling along Venezuela’s Orinoco River as they take the Gospel and the newly translated Scriptures in native languages to settlements where the Lord’s name is barely mentioned. Pray for this to change in this generation.

  • Wes & Nancy February 2022 Prayer Request

Byron, a Christian Mam Indian leader in Guatemala, is putting into practice his knowledge of “Big Book” technology. "Big Books" focus on the promotion and reading of Scripture and engaging in Scriptural discussions. These have been successfully tested in Venezuela and Colombia. Byron was a student of Wes’ several years before COVID. Each participant takes his/her book home and reads it to family and friends and sometimes even copies it to give to the neighbors. Pray for sustained enthusiasm.

    * Byron asks for prayer for the year ahead. He was appointed to be the “vice mayor" of his community. This is a one year post and it is a sign of the trust and confidence his people have in him, but there are a lot of responsibilities, time-and-money wise. Pray that he is faithful to the task and above reproach. He is still a pastor and he runs a radio program in Mam transmitted throughout the area, and he is involved as a leader in the Mam Bible translation project.

    * We hope the Central Mam Bible will be available in 2022.

  • Wes & Nancy November 2021 Prayer Request

A number of indigenous students from Venezuela studied linguistics and translation with the Collins. Now the desperate need for food, medicine, fuel and Christian training is very great. Pray for funding for projects to reach the most basic of needs and that people would be encouraged by the response of Christians to this significant and dangerous problem. Over four million people have fled the country.
