Who knew! New gospel videos

We recently discovered that there are two new videos out in Quechua, resulting from a project we hadn’t heard of: The Lumo Project. Their goal is to make each of the four Gospels available in as many languages as possible with the unabridged Scripture as narration. They now have several Quechua versions posted on the web. Roughly half of them have the Gospel of Mark available, while the other half have the Gospel of Luke. Who knew!

Okay, so how did they do this?

Years ago, Faith Comes By Hearing made dramatized recordings of the New Testament. More recently, they partnered with the Bible Media Group to create the Lumo Project. The Lumo Project’s style of filming avoids having to lip-sync, making it fairly easy to insert different languages into the soundtrack. So, voilà, new videos!

More partners

At the same time that we learned about the videos posted on the web, we learned that the newly made audio recording of one of the Quechua Old Testaments had also posted. Where? On the 5Fish app! That’s another “Who knew!” The next step is to synchronize the recordings to the printed word in the Bible app so people can follow along as they listen.

What a blessing to have other ministries build on and promote the work that our colleagues and we labored on for years!

Getting the word out

Unless you know where to go and what to look for, no one is going to see these videos or (eventually) listen and follow along in the Quechua Bible app. Mark has begun putting links to these videos and recordings into his Quechua website and to the Bible apps.

Odd jobs

Mark continues daily chipping away at checking other teams’ translations. On top of that, he seems to always have a steady stream of odd jobs. In just one day recently he received the following four requests:

  • From a newer linguist: Could you explain how to format the footnote in Micah 7:17?
  • From a friend in Arizona: A local church is preparing international praise music. Can you help them with the pronunciation of this song in Quechua from the Cuzco area?
  • From our Quechua colleagues: Thanks for getting the files to us to reprint a hymnbook. Would you please check over how the print shop wants to print the cover and see if it’s done correctly?
  • From a programmer who supports us with linguistic software: How do you generate allomorphs for your dictionary?

Praise and Prayer Requests

Praise for the creativity, efforts and generosity of partner ministries that help make God’s word more accessible once it’s produced. Pray that our Quechua partners will get the word out about how anyone can access these gospel videos and Old Testament recordings.

Praise for the good PET scan Mark had this month. Yay! That means his chemo treatments knocked his lymphoma back for a while.

* Family news: Praise that we just spent a long weekend with our oldest, Andy, and his family. It was their son, Jeremiah, who was so sick in the spring. Praise God that Jeremiah is active and not experiencing any limitations. Praise that our son Ernie finally had hernia surgery. Pray for healing, as he is experiencing continued pain.

We wish you all a Thanksgiving full of gratitude and a Christmas season remembering we are celebrating the greatest gift of all — Jesus!
