Thank YOU!

You’ve heard of hand-written thank yous. How about a hand-embroidered thank you? The thank you note above was presented to us the last day of April along with the handspun and woven blanket on the right.

You who have been an integral part of the team by praying, giving and encouraging should consider your names included on this hand embroidered note. We aren’t in Peru on our own strength or resources. It takes a whole team. As the note says, “Thank you for working on God’s Word in our Quechua!”

How long are you in the States for?

As we mentioned last letter, we are now in the States while working on pre-publication checks for six Bibles. Nearly everyone asks, “How long are you in the States for?” For the past sevenplus years we’ve only popped in and out when making a trip to the US. So, it’s a natural question for people to ask us.

We really don’t know how long it will take to do these checks. Then, there is the layout of the Bibles and more checks. We’ll just have to see. We do have a short trip to Peru planned in the fall. More about that when the time comes.

So what exactly are you doing?

We are in the pre-publication phase. This phase includes many checks.

Some of them are:

* Remaining parallel passage checks. This is where Mark is mostly concentrating his energies now. Out of 4,783 total parallel passages per Bible, as of this morning he has 2,150 of them done for each language group.

* Key term checks: Mark and the Quechua translation team have decided how to translate the key terms, but now he needs to check for their consistency. Key terms include words and phrases like “kingdom of God,” “covenant,” “generation,” “pure,” “unclean,” “concubine.” So far we have 193 key terms to check for each of the six Bibles.

* Cross-reference checks: Cross references appear at the bottom of the page and refer to other places in the Bible which help the reader understand what he is reading. We have 3,295 cross references already added. Several books still need their cross references inserted and checked to ensure that they really match.

Footnote checks: We need to check the format of the footnotes and make sure all the needed ones are included in their proper place, with all the un-needed ones removed. So far we have over 1,300 footnotes per Bible.

Word list checks: Each Bible has over 68,000 unique words to check. We’ll have an example about this in an upcoming Beans’Talk. We also need to indicate where hyphens could occur in each word.

* Mechanical checks: All sentences need to start with a capital letter and end with sentence- final punctuation. All stray capital letters need to be found and corrected. Quote sets need to be complete.

Praises and Prayer Requests

* Pray: For continued sustained attention to detail as Mark concentrates on parallel passages right now. We have lots of little details to go over.

* Praise: Our daughter Emily and husband Blake have been with us most of this month as they connect with their northeast Ohio friends who partner with them in their ministry. What a special treat for us!

Thank you for being a part of the team!
