Volunteer Opportunity: Red Cross

American Red Cross volunteers turn compassion into action through diverse programs and services.

Visit www.redcross.org/NEO and click ‘VOLUNTEER’ Find the right volunteer opportunity for you and select “Get Started” to complete a volunteer application.

Disaster Cycle Services (DCS): The Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters every year, more than 90 percent of which are home fires. Response Volunteers help those affected by disasters by providing shelter, food, clothing and hope. Recover Volunteers assist with recovery by continuing to advocate for them and their long-term recovery needs. Preparedness Volunteers help individuals and families prevent disasters from occurring through educational materials, presentations, and smoke alarm installations.

Blood Services: Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood. As the nation’s single largest supplier, the American Red Cross must recruit donors and collect, test, process and deliver blood to hospitals every day to meet the ongoing need. Donor Ambassador Volunteers help ensure a positive experience for blood donors. Transportation Specialist Volunteers transport blood and blood products from blood drives to Red Cross Biomedical Services for processing and distribution to hospitals and other medical facilities.

Service to the Armed Forces (SAF): The Red Cross offers critical assistance and resources to service members, veterans and their families globally 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year through a Continuum of Care. Volunteers help ensure families connect with service members and with resources in response to emergencies through the SAF casework process; support recreational and therapeutic activities in VA health care facilities (VAVS Local Volunteer); as well as provide information to newly enlisted service members at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).

Special Events & Virtual/Administrative Support Services: Supporting the Northeast Ohio Region with Special Event, Community Outreach/Volunteer Recruitment & Administrative volunteer opportunities; assisting the Volunteer Services team with volunteer application intake (VIPC); and referring new volunteers to opportunities throughout the region and in all lines of service. Alternate virtual opportunities which support our mission throughout the United States in collaboration with our National Headquarters team are also available.
