Tested and Triumphant
Why would Jesus allow Himself to be tempted by Satan? Matthew’s record of the temptation of Christ can seem both perplexing and unsettling at first glance, but this story points us to Jesus as fully human and fully divine. He endured the temptations that we face to satisfy, vindicate, and glorify ourselves apart from the Father’s will and triumphed over them for us. The power to resist these temptations is found here-not in a checklist, but in a deepening relationship with the Lord Jesus.
