At our Annual Meeting on October 30 we announced a new resource for us as a church, the English Standard Version Bible. You can read more at this blog posting>
Some individuals took up the opportunity to donate a copy of their old NIV and we agreed to coordinate the details and pass them along to those who would benefit from the Bibles. In addition to the Bibles donated we also boxed up the pew Bibles from both the Bainbridge and Green campuses.

As a leadership team, we have prayerfully thought it best to make the switch to the ESV (English Standard Version) Bible. Recently, the NIV (New International Version) Bible translation team has made a revision in their philosophical approach. As a church family, we sense that the ESV is better suited in its translation philosophy for us as we maintain our commitment to study and teach the Bible. It is with a measure of reluctance that we make this move, but it will better prepare the way for us and future generations. We will address this further at our Annual Meeting on October 30 at 7pm.

Last Sunday, we looked to the Scriptures to help guide our thinking about biblicial giving. In his sermon, It All Belongs to Him, Pastor Begg pointed to 1 Chronicles 29: 1-20 where he noted the importance of understanding that all that we do should be for the glory of God. "The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the LORD God," said King David. He then asked "who is willing to consecrate themselves to the LORD today?" Pastor Begg noted that this invitation by King David is an "invitation to participate in the work of, and in the worship of, God." As we look to the next 60 days for the vision of our church family, Pastor Begg offered this chapter as a useful and appropriate text to help us consider the responsibilities and opportunities that lie before us.
