What do you get when you combine elementary-aged boys, balls of various types, pizza, and the Warehouse on a Friday night? You get a Boys’ Game Night event (BGN) that is all about good, old-fashioned “boy fun.” Boys’ Game Nights occur 3-4 times a year and are open to any boys in Kindergarten-5th grade. Boys must be in attendance with a male adult (dad, grandpa, uncle, friend), and we hear stories that the adults have just as much fun (maybe more?) as the kids do!
What can you expect at a BGN event? The events are very loosely structured, so there is a lot of freedom for boys to enjoy various activities like basketball, foosball, ping pong, billiards, dodgeball, and even video games. Pizza, drinks, and snack foods are offered at each BGN; a $2 donation/person is requested to cover the cost of food. The highlight of every BGN is Battleball—boys and adults are SERIOUS players—and multiple games are played at each event. (HINT FOR DADS: Practice your left-handed throwing in advance!)
Why do we have Boys’ Game Nights? We have found these events to be great bridge-building opportunities for Parkside families to invite friends. A comment that we often hear is that the Warehouse is such a great place to hang out and having an event where boys can play the way boys like to play (“blow off steam”) is appreciated by all parents! Boys’ Game Nights not only offer a great time of fellowship, but we’ve also seen wonderful community connections formed because of BGN. Boys invite friends from their schools or sports teams, and connections are made between families that may not happen otherwise. As we continue to prayerfully build relationships with one another for the sake of the Gospel, Boys’ Game Nights provide an excellent opportunity for men and boys to pursue friendships with non-believers.
If you haven’t attended a BGN in the past, we invite you to come to our next event on Friday, January 20 from 6:30-9:00 pm at the Warehouse. As always, whether you are new to BGN or a “regular,” we ask that you RSVP no later than Thursday, January 19 to Renee Pecek at rpecek@parksidechurch.com so that we make sure to have enough “eats” for everyone. So, invite a friend, and we’ll see you on the 20th!
