Haiti Update: From Double Harvest

Here is an update on the situation in Haiti from one of the Double Ministry workers that was sent via email. Read how Parkside is committed to helping and how you can join the effort>

Friends:

Here is an update for your prayers:

I'm getting hourly calls from the team now.  They can call us, but we can't get through to them on the satellite phone.  They report that  they are ready to fill water trucks, and working to provide the supplies to Coupon before they move on to the other surrounding villages.  The team is sending trucks to the city, and picking up injured people.  At this time, The only doctor at DH (Dr. Elysee) is working with the 5 interns (including Peter Pierrot)  They are all sewing up cuts.  They have enough fuel to operate the clinic and wells for today.

I just spoke with Dr. Redden.  He is in Miami.  The US military has "drafted" him and a crew of five other doctors, surgical nurses, etc., and are delivering them to DH later today.  Thanks to our military's Southcom for making that happen.  The guys at Southcom are like air traffic controllers (except they are working with dummies like me).  He has surgeons for Ortho, Internal medicine, etc. and an ER doctor.

There is 7000 gallons of fuel heading to DH today.  We are getting information to the US State department.  They will try to expedite the border crossing for us according to our new friends at Southcom.

We have heard from the US military that there are too many non medical people trying to come in, and it is hindering the medical efforts.  If you hear of a non-medical person that is tinking of going to Haiti, please ask them to wai.

The way I figure, these guys are going to need people like us in the coming weeks, but not right now.  Everybody is in shock there, and nobody has any cement or building materials to rebuild with anyway.  Food is in tight supply, and we need to conserve those kinds of resources by staying away.

If any of you can spend some time encouraging people to give money to DH, Red Cross, etc. that would be most helpful.  DH has the money for now, thanks to the VW's paying for everything, but there will come a day when money is needed to rebuild homes and lives in Coupon and Roche Blanc.

God Bless!
