A Sermon for Reflection

More than likely you will be sitting at the dinner table this Thanksgiving and someone will say, "Lets go around the table and have everyone share something they are thankful for." We have something to help you be ready.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-92) was England's best-known preacher for most of the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1854, just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon, then only 20, became pastor of London's famed New Park Street Church. Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000—all in the days before electronic amplification.

"Giving God His Due" is the title of the sermon that he preached from Psalm 116:17, "I will offer to Thee the sacrifice of Thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord." His opening comments are as follows, "Brethren, this ought to be the result of every Christian's experience of divine grace. 'O Lord, truly I am Thy servant and the son of Thine handmaid; Thou has loosed my bonds; I will offer to Thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving.' Being delivered from spiritual bondage, and made servants of the living God, we must and will praise the Lord as long as we have any being."
