A Recent Trip: English Camp in the Czech Republic

A short-term mission team was put together to teach English at the first annual Logos English Camp in the Czech Republic in July 2011.  Students from the camp were college age and older who desired to improve their conversational English.  Many attend the Logos Language Center in Prague, where Parkside missionary Mike Yurkovich teaches.  Many on the team were mission novices who were excited to see how the Lord would equip them for this new experience!

The team met frequently to pray and prepare for the trip.  They prayed that they would be united in their desire to honor the Lord and be used by him in the lives of the campers.  Each member of the team (ranging in age from 19 to 72) brought specific gifts and talents that contributed to the success of the camp.  They were especially amazed at how God answered their prayer for team unity; in fact, many of the campers said they couldn’t believe that the team members had all just met—it was, they said, “as if they had been together for a long  time.”

Each day was packed with English lessons, seminars and workshops, games and activities, singing, drama, and small group discussions.  Each activity was designed to provide the campers with a plethora of opportunities to improve their English and in the process, develop relationships with team members.  Evaluations that the campers completed at week’s end were filled with appreciation and gratitude for the experience.  One said “it was the best experience of my life.”

Each team member left with wonderful memories, having experienced God in action 24/7, as He provided strength and wisdom and met every need.  They also left with what they believe will be life-long friends, with whom they can continue to share their lives.
