Short-Term Missions Team is Leaving for Oaxaca, Mexico

We have a short-term missions trip team that is scheduled to leave for Oaxaca later this week. Here is the latest from Dave Cameron, a church Elder and leader on the trip, as they anticipate departure.

Hello Friends

As you know, for the past several years I have gone on a dental mission’s trip to Oaxaca Mexico.  Again a team is planning to go and help show the love of Jesus Christ and build a platform from which the Gospel can be preached.  This year we will again be going for a week from October 9th to October 16th.

The team will include Dr Gus Komar, Bob Cibik, Terry Richardson, Richard Kazmier, Chris Beals, Stephen Downey and I.    We will meet up with several people from Oaxaca who will help with language and logistics.  Several local pastors will also help and be with us.

I am writing to ask your prayers for the team and the trip.  As you may have heard there has been heavy rain in the area and some mud slides have been reported in the news.  Many of the roads are dirt roads carved out of the mountain side and are potentially affected.  We are not sure of the area we will be going yet because there are also administrative problems with the government certification of the airports that Mike Ross of MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship) flies into.  I’m told there is a backup plan for us to drive to a closer area if we can not fly to a remote site.  As usual we would value your prayers for our travel, health, and safety.  Most of us do not know the language.  Sometimes the people we are ministering to are speaking a dialect and not Spanish so there are several steps of translation in the process.

We were heartened to hear that one of the local pastors was asking when the dentists were coming back.  Pedro serves several small congregations and rides a 100cc dirt bike to get from church to church in the mountains of Amoltepec, Mamay and El Zapote.    A dental team has provided an opportunity and invitation for him and several other local pastors to go into towns where  they were not welcomed in the past.

Thanks for your prayers for the people of Oaxaca that they will know of Jesus’ love and will be attracted to hear the Gospel.

In Christ,

Dave Cameron
