Wes Collins will be at Parkside in October for several weeks. While he is here, we've asked him to hold a series of classes for anyone who wants to attend.  He's titled these classes "Gifts Galore: Paul's Theology of Culture Wrapped Up in Silver and Gold." Below, he's given us a sneak peak at what he will be covering.

The Apostle Paul was involved in two gifts from Gentile believers to the largely Jewish church in Jerusalem.  The first gift made such an impression on him that he, many years later, took up a very large second offering from the churches in Galatia, Macedonia and Achaia, which he personally delivered to the elders in Jerusalem (and was almost immediately arrested by the Romans).  In the first gift he was an observer, in the second he was a mover and shaker.

Our discussion will center on a few questions like these:

  • Why was this second offering so important to Paul?
  • Why do he and Luke dedicate so much Scripture to this offering (in Acts, Romans, I and II Corinthians, and Galatians?
  • What does a healthy view of this several-years-long event help us understand about Paul’s theology of culture?

We hope that you'll consider attending these classes to be held on October 11 & 18 during the 3rd service in the Fellowship Hall.

Scott Kennedy recently had an opportunity to sit down with Wes and talk to him about his missionary experience in Peru. To watch the videos of Wes and Scott, click here.
