Volunteer FAQs
Below are some frequently asked questions we receive from individuals interested in serving in Sunday morning children's ministry. If you have additional questions or would like to volunteer, complete the volunteer form, and someone will contact you.
What ages of children have Sunday morning classes?
We have classes for all children ages 2 - 5th grade at both the 9:45 & 11:15 services.
Is there curriculum that is provided?
Yes! Each class has its own age-appropriate curriculum with a lesson plan and ideas for each week.
What kind of things do workers do?
We have a variety of opportunities in our Sunday morning ministry. Whether you enjoy crafts, like to play games, are a gifted teacher or musician, or simply enjoy playing with and loving kids, we have a spot for you!
Do I need to be a Parkside member to serve?
We ask that you be a Parkside member if you are the classroom teacher; however, we need over 90 helpers in the rooms, and we encourage non-members to serve (regular attendance at Parkside for at least 6 months, please).
How often would I serve?
We ask that you commit to serving on a team with 3-4 other adults each Sunday morning during EITHER the 9:45 am or 11:15 am service from September-July. Adult LIFE Group members serve as substitutes in August.
Why do you ask for an eleven-month commitment?
Our desire is to provide stability to the children, as well as an opportunity for adults to "get connected" through serving. Your Sunday morning team is somewhat like a mini-LIFE Group, providing fellowship, opportunity for personal growth, and a regular place of service. Many of our helpers have said that their teams have developed meaningful friendships with one another and have grown tremendously in Christ through their service in Children's Ministries.
I'm interested in serving, but what happens if I can't be there every Sunday?
While we ask that you commit to serving regularly on a team, we do understand that there will be times when you are unable to be there (illness, travel, etc.). This is why we have teams! When you are unable to attend, it is usually not a burden for you or your team because there are 3-4 other adults who will be in attendance.
I can't make a regular commitment on Sunday mornings. Is there somewhere else in Children's Ministries for me to serve?
Yes! We invite you to consider serving on a Nursery Team (once/5 weeks), in our Sunday evening Kids of the Kingdom program (2x/month), as a Children's Music Ministry helper (flexible commitment), as a GEO Kidz leader (midweek, 2x/month), or as a PNO Caregiver (respite care for families with children with special needs; 1x/month). Contact Kelly Coy for more information about how to get involved in our Children's Ministry.
