About the Ross Family

Mike and Joan Ross, with their son Aaron are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship serving in Oaxaca, Mexico. They previously served in Ecuador for three terms and spent one term in Nicaragua.

Mike was raised in a Christian home near Cleveland, Ohio. He became a Christian at age 5, and when Mike was 16, he committed his life to fully serve the Lord. Mike attended Moody Bible Institute and Moody Aviation and obtained a B.S. degree in mission aviation technology. He holds licenses as an airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanic and as a commercial pilot with an instrument and flight instructor rating.

Joan was raised in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, and it was there that her pastor's wife led Joan to the Lord when she was 5. During her high school years, her family moved to Perrysburg, Ohio, where she dedicated her life to serve the Lord wherever He led her. She attended Moody Bible Institute for one year and then a secretarial school. Mike and Joan met at Moody and were married two years later in 1975. When Mike and Joan lived in Nicaragua, she took accounting classes at the University of Mobile, in Managua.

In summer 2004 the Rosses moved to Oaxaca, Mexico where they continue to work with MAF. Mike goes to the office each day or out to Mitla where he helps with maintenance. He is enjoying the opportunity to do more flying than he was doing in Ecuador and also finds regular opportunities to encourage the Program Manager, Leo. Mike also partners with pastor/evangelist Edgar Rivera who has an itinerate ministry to a few isolated mountain communities who desperately need the Gospel and Bible teaching.

Mike and Joan's favorite verses are found in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." These verses are important to them because they are a promise that has been proved in their lives numerous times.

Mike & Joan are receiving partial financial support from Parkside.
