Kids of the Kingdom is now Mission Kids

Mission Kids

How can children know and love Christ? How can they go and tell others the Good News? These two questions provide the framework for our new Sunday evening children’s ministry called Mission Kids. After 31 years of faithful ministry to children through Kids of the Kingdom, we prayerfully believe that it is time for a “refresh” of what we do on Sunday nights. After much consideration of how to enhance our Sunday evening program, it became clear a new name would help to appropriately signify this updated ministry.

What Will Mission Kids Look Like?
In some ways, it will look similar to Kids of the Kingdom. We’ll still have worship and prayer time, Bible teaching and games. Mission Kids will expand to minister to children ages three through 5th grades, following a similar pattern as our Sunday morning program for children.

How Will Mission Kids Be Structured?
Keeping in mind the concepts of children knowing and loving Christ and going and telling others, we plan to utilize The Jesus Storybook Bible as the foundation of our curriculum content. With additional components of Scripture memorization and missions focus, our prayer is that children will come to understand that the Bible is all about one Person -- the Lord Jesus Christ -- and that they can know and love Jesus in a personal and real way. For our missions focus, we’ll discuss current Parkside missionaries, as well as missionary biographies and countries of the world, with the goal of encouraging a love for missions and evangelism in the lives of our Parkside children.

When Will Mission Kids Begin?
Mission Kids begins on Sunday, September 13. We’d like to invite parents to join us for our first night as we launch Mission Kids. Come and find out what we’ll be doing this year on Sunday evenings!

How Can I Be Involved?
Please pray with us for the start of Mission Kids. There are many details for which we need to plan and prepare. Consider serving at Mission Kids! We will have two teams who will serve for three weeks in a row with three weeks off, and we will
need worship leaders, Bible time teachers, small group leaders, and activity leaders. We especially encourage parents, teens, and pre-teens (6th grade and older) to serve. With Thanksgiving
“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.”

These words written by Paul to the church at Philippi seem an appropriate way to express our thanksgiving to the Lord and our appreciation to all who have served at Kids of the Kingdom over the past 31 years. God’s faithfulness was evident from the very beginnings of Kids of the Kingdom in 1984, and this was visibly seen in the lives of over 500 people who have served throughout the years in this ministry. We thank God for every young person and adult who had a part in seeing unbelieving children become committed followers of Jesus Christ.

We would be remiss if we did not mention special recognition of Jean McDowell who gave endless hours to the ministry of Kids of the Kingdom since its start. At an appreciation luncheon in June, Jean was presented with a Waterford vase, a Books by the Park gift card, and a summer planter as expressions of thanks on behalf of the body of Parkside Church. We thank God for Jean’s faithful and loving service all these years.
